“Doc’s Spotlight” #2 Today’s \u201cDoc\u2019s Spot [light]\u201d is on one of the 1st [since 1974 for god\u2019s sake!] Punk bands; Devo<\/a>! The first time I heard Devo I hated them! I remember sitting in a math class in Junior High. It was 1978. The \u201ccool\u201d kid; Mike Lomath was playing a cassette, while in class of course, of Devo\u2019s debut lp \u201cAre We Not Men<\/a>?\u201d.<\/span>

I remember thinking to myself, what the hell is this weird crap? I mean this isn\u2019t music! WAY beyond me at that time. But a couple quick years later, while a freshman in high school, I was hanging out with my oldest buddy [since 3rd grade] Glen. Glen had an older brother [always one of those involved in a story like this huh?] who was a big Devo fan. I think it was \u201cDuty Now For The Future<\/a>\u201d or maybe \u201cFreedom of Choice<\/a>\u201d that turned me on to Devo. I can still remember being at home listening to Devo full blast, grabbing a pair of scissors while staring at myself in the mirror and cutting, REAL short, just the top of my hair so it would stick up!<\/span>
<\/span>
Devo was the first band to really \u201cmotivate\u201d me and they opened the door to a whole new way of thinking. I can\u2019t thank them enough.<\/span>
My only Devo regret? NOT going to see them when Glen\u2019s older brother asked us to go see Devo, The Germs<\/a> and Blondie<\/a> in Hollywood<\/a> (I think at The Whiskey<\/a>). I\u2019m sure I was way too scared but man I regret that!!!<\/span>
