In 1981, if you were trawling for hardcore 7’’ records that had more than three songs per side, chances are you ran across a strange- looking EP by DC’s ominously-monikered Beaver, perhaps the weirdest hardcore record in existence then. Its 10 songs were played at an extreme, breakneck speed rife with dense production, odd time signatures, and metal and reggae breakdowns—not exactly standard fare. It can now be revealed, this record marks future-Government Issue guitarist Tom Lyle’s debut recording, and it’s available again on a remastered, remixed, expanded LP that pivots a hotly remixed version of the original EP on one side against nine songs from two earlier demos on the other. My “Buy or Die” pick of the issue! (rarepunk.com)
